To convert IGES to Parasolid, drop the .iges or .igs file into the converter below and download an .x_t. The exact surfaces in the IGES are rebuilt as the same true surfaces in the transmit file, ready for SOLIDWORKS, Solid Edge or NX. No account is needed for up to 2 solid conversions a day. If the sender can export STEP or Parasolid directly, that is always the cleaner source.
2 solid-geometry conversions a day with no account. No card, no install.
On our servers. No account: deleted within 24 hours. Signed in: kept until you delete them. Never shared or used for training.
Planes stay planes and cylinders stay cylinders: a hole comes through as one face with a radius you can measure and mate to.
Unsupported geometry is refused with a message naming it, never silently degraded.
IGES and Parasolid both store exact geometry, so planes, cylinders and NURBS surfaces carry over as themselves and no dimension moves.
The difference is what the file promises about those surfaces. A Parasolid transmit file is a solid: faces joined edge to edge into a closed body. An IGES is often only a set of trimmed surfaces that happen to sit next to each other, written by a system that never joined them, and sometimes with small gaps between them. When the IGES describes a closed body, the .x_t is a solid. When it is loose surfaces with gaps, the conversion cannot invent the missing edges, and the result may be refused or open, so ask for a STEP or Parasolid export instead.
Nothing beyond geometry travels: IGES files carry no feature history, and colours, levels and attributes are not carried into the .x_t.
IGES predates STEP and is still requested by older CAM systems and mould and die workflows. It stores exact geometry, but many IGES files are loose trimmed surfaces that never close into a watertight solid. Unless someone asks for IGES by name, STEP is the better choice.
A CAM programmer, toolmaker or legacy system asked for IGES, or you were handed one and need something current.
Parasolid is the modelling kernel under SOLIDWORKS, Solid Edge and NX, and a transmit file is its exact solid geometry. Between systems that share the kernel it often survives better than a neutral format. .x_t is text, .x_b is binary; both hold the same solid.
Someone in a Siemens or SOLIDWORKS shop sent you an .x_t and nothing you have opens it.
Keep the part open: fill it with a lattice, check it with FEA, texture a surface, or slice it into cut-ready sheets. These workspaces are in early access — create an account, then apply from inside the app.
