To convert SLDASM to 3MF, drop the .sldasm into the converter below and download a .3mf with every shown component in its assembled position. The 3MF records that it is in millimetres, so Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, OrcaSlicer and Cura open it at the right size without asking. Assemblies of up to 5 parts need no account. To print parts separately, convert each SLDPRT instead.
5 conversions a day with no account. No card, no install, no CAD licence.

The solid in the SLDASM file is triangulated to produce the 3MF output. Assemblies convert whole, and components keep their names.
A SLDASM is a list of parts, their positions and the mates between them. A 3MF is a package for printing: meshes, a unit, and room for colours and separate objects. Converting fills it with the assembled shape: every visible component placed where the assembly put it.
The one thing to know is that the whole assembly arrives as a single object, not one object per component. The slicer will treat it as one model: it cannot lay the parts out flat, give each its own filament, or print them apart. Colours and part names are not carried either. If you need any of that, convert the part files one by one and arrange them in the slicer.
What 3MF adds over STL is the unit, which is why it is the better choice when the slicer reads it: no part arriving 25.4 times too small. Mates, feature trees and configurations stay behind, as they do in any mesh. Hidden and suppressed components are left out. Assemblies saved before SOLIDWORKS 2015 convert too when the file says where each part sits, and the converter says so when it does not.
A SLDASM file is a SOLIDWORKS assembly: parts positioned by the mates that constrain them. Sent with its SLDPRT files, the whole product converts as one and component names are kept. An assembly that stores its components’ shapes converts on its own too, every component placed where it sits — as a mesh, or as a solid whose surfaces are rebuilt from those stored shapes.
Someone sent you a whole product and you need it in a neutral format your CAD system, renderer or printer takes.
3MF was designed to replace STL for 3D printing. It records units, colour and material, keeps multiple objects separate, and is compressed. Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, Cura and Windows all read it. The shape is still a triangle mesh.
You are printing and want units, colour and part structure to survive the handover.
Keep the part open: fill it with a lattice, check it with FEA, texture a surface, or slice it into cut-ready sheets. These workspaces are in early access — create an account, then apply from inside the app.
