Open a Parasolid file
in KiCad.

Updated 2026-10-01

KiCad cannot use Parasolid files: footprint 3D models must be STEP, VRML or IDF. Convert it to STEP below, then open the .step in KiCad. KiCad shows the STEP model on the footprint in its 3D viewer and carries it into board STEP exports.

What KiCad can import was checked against its own documentation: KiCad supported formats. Software changes; if a newer release imports Parasolid directly, use that.

Questions3 answered
Can KiCad open Parasolid files?
KiCad cannot use Parasolid files: footprint 3D models must be STEP, VRML or IDF. Checked against KiCad's own documentation on 2026-10-01.
Why STEP?
STEP carries exact solid geometry and KiCad imports it, so the part arrives as a real solid rather than triangles.
Is the conversion free?
Yes. Without an account, 2 solid-geometry conversions a day are free, with no card and nothing to install.
