Open a 3DM file
in FreeCAD.

Updated 2026-10-01

FreeCAD cannot open Rhino 3DM files: 3DM is not among the formats it imports. Convert it to STEP below, then open the .step in FreeCAD. FreeCAD imports a STEP file as an exact solid, with its colours if the file carries them.

What FreeCAD can import was checked against its own documentation: FreeCAD supported formats. Software changes; if a newer release imports 3DM directly, use that.

Can FreeCAD open 3DM files?
FreeCAD cannot open Rhino 3DM files: 3DM is not among the formats it imports. Checked against FreeCAD's own documentation on 2026-10-01.
Why STEP?
STEP carries exact solid geometry and FreeCAD imports it, so the part arrives as a real solid rather than triangles.
Is the conversion free?
Yes. Without an account, 2 solid-geometry conversions a day are free, with no card and nothing to install.
